Our Beginning

Welcome to MOD

When Scott and Ally Svenson founded MOD Pizza in 2008, they knew the last thing the world needed was another pizza place. In their hometown of Seattle, they imagined a new way for people to enjoy pizza, by bringing speed, individual style and value to one of America’s favorite foods. But the real secret sauce wouldn’t be the product, it would be the people who serve our communities — the MOD Squad. By taking care of employees, they would take care of the customers, and the business would take care of itself. It’s how we’ve built a culture of opportunity, belonging and community for the past 13 years, and it’s catching on wholeheartedly.

Our Purpose

Why we exist

To us, pizza is more than just food. It’s our platform to make a positive social impact in the lives of our people and the communities we serve. MOD exists to contribute to a world that works for and includes everyone. We face challenges today that don’t have simple solutions, but at the heart of MOD are two beliefs. The first is that everyone deserves an equal opportunity to pursue their hopes and dreams. Unfortunately, the playing field for many is far from level. The second belief is that businesses can and should play a role in addressing societal challenges. At MOD, that means doing our part to create a more accepting and equitable world by building a successful business that puts people first.

Our Hiring Practices

This is not a pizza place

To really understand MOD, it’s important to know this is not a pizza place — we’re a people place. Putting people first starts with our hiring practices. From the beginning, we recognized there are people in communities who are often overlooked and face real barriers to employment. By providing opportunities to people formerly incarcerated, individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD), Opportunity Youth (those between the ages of 16 and 24 who are not in school and not employed), and those who have struggled with homelessness or are recovering from addiction, MOD strives every day to foster a sense of opportunity and belonging. Together, we’re building strong and passionate MOD Squad communities in every restaurant across the country.

Our Food

Food to feel good about

We’re all about choice. The MOD experience is built around high-quality, personalized products delivered superfast. Our individually sized pizzas and hand-tossed salads are fully customizable, with more than 40 toppings, 8 finishing sauces, and 8 delectable dressings. Every pizza or salad is made on demand and completely unique, but the price always stays the same. We care deeply about sourcing superior, fresh ingredients with vibrant flavors, and remain committed to working with our partners on environmental impact, animal ethics, and fair labor practices.

Our Impact

Serving Squad and Community

We believe in using our platform to support the MOD Squad and the causes they care about. This starts internally at company-owned stores through an employee relief “Bridge Fund” that provides grants to Squad members in crisis, as well as access to education and professional development programs through our Journey Program. In addition, we’ve supported a range of community-based causes throughout the years, such as mental health awareness and suicide prevention, childhood hunger, LGBTQ+ inclusivity, and support for individuals with IDD. Our largest community event is our annual Spreading MODness campaign. To celebrate our birthday, the MOD Squad and community work together to raise funds to combat food insecurity. To date, we’ve provided more than 6.2 million meals to local food banks.
